Simproza “Babe” (Zerambo) Whisman, retired hospice nurse and resident of Glenside, PA, passed away on August 23, 2020 at the age of 73 in Philadelphia, PA. She was surrounded by loved ones.
Babe was born in Philadelphia, PA and was a graduate of the Helene Fuld College of Nursing. She worked for many years at Jeanes Hospital before becoming a nurse for Holy Redeemer Hospice Care. She was a wonderful and caring nurse, had strong expertise in her field, and served as a mentor to countless colleagues over the years.
Babe enjoyed spending time with loved ones more than anything else. She was always making people laugh and feel welcomed. She was the first person on the dance floor, the most enthusiastic fan at a sporting event, and she loved penny parties. Whenever she had the opportunity, Babe was on the deck of a boat. She loved fishing—the calm of the water, the joy of sharing her catch with the family, and the chance to relax with the people surrounding her. She was a sports fan, especially when on the sidelines rooting for her children and later her four grandchildren. Babe always put other people before herself, and was a volunteer at the Tacony Senior Citizens Club.
Most of all, she was a beloved friend, sister, Mom, Mom-Mom and Aunt. She treasured time with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Supsic and her husband Marc; son Michael Whisman and his wife Judy; daughter, Karen Whisman; former husband and father of her children, Dennis Whisman; grandchildren, Michael, Alicia, Cayden and Olivia; sister Pauline Jamieson; brothers Charles Zerambo and Francis Zerambo. She is predeceased by her parents, Francis and Simproza; and infant son, Dennis.
Babe believed that life should be celebrated, not mourned. A Life Celebration will be held when it is safe to do so.
Donations can be made to one of Babe’s favorite charities, Drueding Center (druedingcenter.org). Because of her love of fishing, a small donation can be made to Local 130 Seafood to help feed people in need (local130seafood.com).
